Research in the Gubser group centers on AdS/CFT and its applications. A particular focus since 2015 is $p$-adic AdS/CFT.  Ordinary AdS/CFT is a duality between gravity in a negatively curved spacetime and a field theory on the boundary of that spacetime. In $p$-adic AdS/CFT, the boundary is the $p$-adic numbers for a chosen prime $p$, and the bulk is a tree graph. One motivation to study $p$-adic AdS/CFT is that since the bulk is naturally discrete, one can hope for better control of ultraviolet effects than is usually possible in theories of gravity.
