John Hopfield Awarded Nobel Prize in Physics!

Oct. 8, 2024

Today we celebrate the awarding of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physics to our colleague John Hopfield, who was a faculty member in the Physics Department from 1964 to 1980 and is currently Associated Faculty in the Department.

John is a visionary scientist who transcended boundaries and illuminated the deep connections between theoretical physics and a wide range of phenomena across myriad fields of science. As a member of the department, John was a passionate teacher and mentor to generations of undergraduate and graduate students inspired by his brilliance and unique approach to studying nature. My colleagues are thrilled for John and this deserving acknowledgment of his transformative contributions to fundamental science and its practical applications.
