Event Description
Fermilab has entered an exciting new phase, in which an international collaboration is designing and building the world’s most powerful source of neutrinos on the Fermilab site. The neutrinos will be shot through the earth to the Homestake mine in South Dakota, where DUNE, a giant detector based on 40,000 tons of instrumented liquid argon 4700 feet underground, will detect them. Dr. Lockyer will describe these exciting projects and the questions about the universe they are designed to answer, including the role of neutrinos in the cosmic matter-antimatter asymmetry, missing dark matter, and other puzzles in particle physics and cosmology.www.dunescience.org/ http://lbnf.fnal.gov/ http://
