Date Sep 16, 2013, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm Location TBD Audience LSI, MOL, Biophysics. Share on X Share on Facebook Share on LinkedIn Details Event Description "Principles underlying cellular protein production" Protein biosynthesis is by far the largest consumer of energy during cellular proliferation. The tremendous cost associated with protein synthesis makes it a key step for regulating diverse cellular functions. Therefore, determining how a cell allocates its synthesis capacity for each protein will provide a foundational piece of information for systems biology. I will describe our approach to address this gap of knowledge using quantitative and genome-wide methods monitoring cellular protein synthesis. Our study revealed the general principles governing protein production that cells have acquired to optimize the utilization of limited resources. More broadly, this approach provides a enabling tool for quantitative cell biology and precise biological engineering. Lunch @11:45. Location TBD along with seminar location which will be either Icahn 101 or Jadwin 111.
