Reactor neutrino experiments and short baseline experiments at LANL and FNAL left the door open for the possibility of ~1 eV mass sterile neutrinos, mixing with the standard neutrino sector. We will review the status of the field and plans to perform a definitive search of sterile neutrinos in this range of masses with the use of strong artificial neutrino and antineutrino sources in Borexino.
