Gravity Group Lunch Seminar, Niall MacCrann (Ohio State University), "Cosmological constraints from galaxy clustering and weak lensing in the Dark Energy Survey Year 1 data"

Fri, Nov 17, 2017, 12:00 pm

I will present the methodology behind the recent results from the Dark Energy Survey that produced one of the tightest low redshift constraints on the cosmological parameters to date. In a blinded analysis, we use fluctuations in the galaxy number density and the weak lensing shear (and their cross-correlation) to probe the growth of structure, and find good agreement with existing high and low redshift datasets (in the LCDM model). While giving a broad overview of the full analysis, I will also discuss some of the juicy details that enter, such as shear estimation and galaxy alignment modeling.

Salads, sandwiches, and wraps are catered by D'Angelo Italian Market.
Bottled water will be provided.
