Speaker(s):

Biophysics Seminar - TBA

Mon, Apr 24, 2017, 12:00 pm

Biophysics Seminar - Alipasha Vaziri, Rockefeller U. "Visual Perception at the threshold"

Biophysics Seminar - Erwin Frey, LMU "Protein Pattern Formation: Rethinking Nonlinear Dynamics"

Biophysics Seminar - Raghu Parthasarathy, U Oregon "Glimpses of Gut Microbes in their Physical World"

Mon, Apr 3, 2017, 12:00 pm

In each of our digestive tracts, trillions of microbes representing hundreds of different species colonize local environments, reproduce, and compete with one another. Little is known about the physical structure and temporal dynamics of gut microbial communities: how they grow, fluctuate, and respond to perturbations.

Biophysics Seminar - Thierry Emonet, Yale U. “How diversity modulates collective behavior and vice versa: Lessons from bacteria”

Biophysics Seminar - Orit Peleg, Harvard “Local Sensing in Disordered Living Systems”

Biophysics Seminar - Joseph Loparo, Harvard Medical School “Bridging the gap: Single-molecule studies of DNA double strand break repair”

Mon, Feb 20, 2017, 12:00 pm

Non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) is the primary repair pathway for double-strand breaks in human cells, yet we lack a detailed understanding of how broken DNA ends are brought together, enzymatically processed, and joined. To better understand these questions, we have developed single-molecule assays to visualize NHEJ in Xenopus egg extracts...

Biophysics Seminar - Sahand Rahi, Rockefeller "Dynamics: Challenge and tool for understanding living systems"

Mon, Feb 13, 2017, 12:00 pm

A central challenge in biology is to predict system behavior in time, given incomplete knowledge, strong interactions, and noise. We have pursued multiple approaches to building predictive dynamical descriptions of biological systems, making progress toward general principles.
