Marc Kamionkowski, B-modes from dust and dark energy

Hamilton Colloquium Series - Thomas Gregor, Princeton, "Precision and reproducibility in development"

Thu, Sep 18, 2014, 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm
Identical body plans across a species result from precise and reproducible embryonic development. However, the environment for developmental processes can be quite variable, and crucial signals inside the embryo are carried by so few molecules that we might expect development to be noisy. It is thus unclear how precision is achieved along the...

Math Physics Seminar, Frank Hansen, "Regular operator mappings and multivariate geometric means"

Tue, Sep 16, 2014, 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm
We introduce the notion of regular operator mappings of several variables generalising the notion of spectral function. This setting is convenient for studying maps more general than what can be obtained from the functional calculus, and it allows for Jensen type inequalities and multivariate non-commutative perspectives.

High Energy Theory Seminar- IAS - Masanori Hanada, Kyoto U.-“Toward Numerical Experiments of Quantum Gravity via Gauge/Gravity Duality”

Particle Physics Seminar: Eric Linder, "Dark Freedom, Early Universe Bounds, and Sky Surveys"

Fri, Sep 12, 2014, 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm
Large, deep sky surveys from galaxy mapping and CMB experiments can not only probe the cosmological parameters but the framework of the dark sector and the early universe. I discuss how galaxy spatial clustering can probe a free form inflationary power spectrum and strong lensing time delays can yield the Hubble constant. CMB results probe...

High Energy Theory Seminar- IAS - Jonathan Maltz, Stanford University - "Effective String Theory Simplified"

Special Condensed Matter Seminar, Hong Ding, Strong and local pairing in iron-based superconductors as seen by photoelectrons"

Thu, Jul 10, 2014, 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm
Iron-based superconductors (Fe-SCs), with their highest transition temperature (Tc) at 57K, have been added since 2008 to the family of high-Tc superconductors which has been solely occupied by copper-based superconductors (Cu-SCs) for more than 20 years.

International Conference on String Theory

Mon, Jun 23, 2014, 9:00 am to Fri, Jun 27, 2014, 5:30 pm

Informal HET Seminar - Akikazu Hasimoto, University of WI, Madison - Boundaries and defects of N=4 SYM and N=2 gauge field theories in 2+1 dimensions

Special Condensed Matter Seminar, Alexey Soluyanov, "Wannier functions and topological materials"

Tue, Jun 10, 2014, 11:00 am to 12:00 pm
Search for topological materials becomes significantly simplified within the framework of some special class of Wannier functions. I will explain this technique in some details and give an overview of the ongoing work on global search for candidate topological materials.

Tue, May 20, 2014, 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm
In this talk we will explain how the determination of the scaling limit of parafermionic observables can be used to deduce the conformal invariance of interfaces in planar random-cluster models with cluster-weight 1 ≤ Q ≤ 4 (1\leq Q \leq 4).
